JohnsonPlayfair has been working in partnership with the Ontario Masonry Training Centre to teach a restoration course at the Ebeneezer United Church in Markham.  This beautifull red and yellow brick church was built in 1878 and has suffered from years of neglect and weather damage.  The building was in need of extensive structural and cosmetic repairs.

We began by teaching a select class of masonry apprentices some historic repointing techniques and practices.

Following the two week instructional course, we were engaged to perform extensive restoration to the East and West sides of the building.  The scope of work included brick replacement, re-pointing, and the full reconstruction of three solid masonry buttresses on both sides of the Church.  All work is being done using traditional lime mortars and historic restoration practices.
