Masonry Restoration
We offer masonry restoration services for both heritage and newer properties, in conjunction with our partner Arcana Restoration. Masonry restoration can also ensure your whole building looks immaculate when embarking on an addition or renovation.
Repointing
Replacement of deteriorated mortar within brick or stone joints. We employ a testing process to ensure a correct match to existing mortar.
Tuckpointing
A skilled masonry process that involves using colour-coordinating mortar to fill joints and applying a thin layer of mortar in a decorative, normally light colour to create the appearance of very tight joints. This can enhance the appearance of an older brick building or provide a decorative touch to a wall.
Brick Replacement
When bricks are too deteriorated for cleaning or repointing, we will look for replacement bricks to match the existing brick. When possible, our colleagues at Arcana Materials can help source period-appropriate and matching bricks for historic homes. In newer homes or when a match is not available, we will source coordinating new brick and can provide tinting services to ensure the replacement brick fits in.
Facade Rebuilding
When a building has a severely deteriorated facade, we can offer full rebuilds with brick replacement, repointing /tuckpointing, cleaning, and salvaging of original brick or stone where possible.
Toronto Masonry Cleaning
Brick can become dirty and worn down from vehicle exhaust, air pollution, road salt, and salt in the air. Sometimes it was painted over in the past by paint that has worn away; other times it may have incurred damage from past attempts at cleaning with harsh chemicals or power washing. Even newer buildings may benefit from masonry cleaning.
We use a nonabrasive steam masonry cleaning device to ensure cleaning of dirt, dust, salt, and paint happens without damage to the original masonry.
